Men of Whom the World is Not Worthy

"Men of whom the world is not worthy." Hebrews 11:38

This fallen world is not worthy of those men who walk by faith. Not because they are inherently valuable. By nature, men are fallen and worthless. Isaiah says that all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment. They are filthy rags. Isaiah 64:6, "We have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment. We all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away." These men of faith are valuable because of the God they know. They are precious because of Jesus Christ. The world is not worthy of them because they have such a position in Christ, the world cannot even afford them. And yet, men like this are the men we need.

When I consider the high cost of a life lived by faith, I see that the great men of Earth that we remember are men of faith. Think of George Washington. Think of Robert E. Lee. Think of Nathan Bedford Forrest. Think of these great men. And also consider the men we have lost, like Charlie (Kirk), like Rush (Limbaugh), like Voddie (Baucham). The men we have lost still live because they live unto Christ. This is the time of year, coming to the end of the fall season, when we remember those we lost, in the spirit of All Saints' Day. And God is telling us that if we want to be men of whom the world is not worthy, then we must become men of faith.

Men, I think you ought to consider three things: the God we have, the men we've lost, and the men we will be. The God we have: Jesus Christ, Immanuel, God with us. The men we've lost: those men of faith who have gone before us. And the men we will be: we will be raised incorruptible with the great company of the dead in Christ who will outshine the sun. All the men of faith who have gone before us are present in the great cloud of witnesses. And we are exhorted to lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and run with endurance the race that is set before us. Because the God we have is so immeasurably great, and the men we've lost have run the race, then we, the men we are and will be, must run with endurance so that we will join them.

Brothers, to be men of whom the world is not worthy, we need the God we have, to remember the men we've lost, and to become by faith the men we will be.
